MANDIBULAR OSTEOTOMY
Candidates for mandibular osteotomy usually exhibit either a retruded or small mandible with an overbite or an excessively large mandible with an underbite. Therefore, the mandibular osteotomy procedure usually involves advancing the mandible forward or moving it backward.
The procedure is performed intraorally and is usually 2 hours long. Overnight hospitalization may be required. A liquid diet is required for 3 weeks, and patients usually return to work in 2-3 weeks.
