POST-OP INSTRUCTIONS
It is normal to experience swelling and pain following surgery. In general, swelling usually peaks 48-72 hours post-surgery. In order to hasten your recovery, it is important for you to drink as much fluids as possible in order to prevent dehydration, to take deep breaths in order to prevent fever, and to ambulate in order to prevent blood clots in your legs.
BREATHING
It is imperative that you contact Dr. Li immediately or dial 911 if you have difficulty breathing. If you have your teeth held together by rubber bands, please cut them first and then contact Dr. Li.
BLEEDING
It is normal to experience minor bleeding from the operative sites. However, if perfuse bleeding occurs, please contact Dr. Li immediately or dial 911.
DIET
A liquid diet is required for 3-4 weeks after the operation. Please note that it may take several months before you can resume an unrestricted diet.
SLEEPING POSITION
Head elevation (with two pillows) while sleeping is recommended for 3 days.
SINUS PROTECTION
Nose blowing is forbidden for 2-3 weeks after a maxillary osteotomy procedure or maxillomandibular osteotomy procedure.
