		MAXILLARY OSTEOTOMY
Candidates for maxillary osteotomy usually exhibit either a retruded maxilla with inadequate support of the upper lip and an underbite or an excessively long maxilla with a gummy smile. Therefore, the maxillary osteotomy procedure usually involves advancing the maxilla forward or shortening it.

The procedure is performed intraorally and is usually 2 hours long. Overnight hospitalization may be required. A liquid diet is required for 3 weeks, and patients usually return to work in 2-3 weeks.
